God answers that he has always been with her and to just reach out to him. The figure in the painting, kneeling on the grass, does just that- we see a church in the background- The sky becomes Gods face and the grass becomes God's mighty right hand.'Kings daughters are among Your honorable women; At your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.' psalm 45:9 'You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great.' psa 18:35 'My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.' psa 60:5.
The figure's white hair is symbolic of a bride's veil- and so she becomes the bride for whom Jesus returns. The many colors in the figure's neck illustrate that God does not discriminate... and the light from one of the church windows is indicative of someone now being HOME.
One is only HOME when he opens up his heart to God. We sometimes forget that God desires to come close to us, to enter intimately into our hearts. But God will not force a way. God will knock and wait. Sometimes the first step we have to make in opening the door is to set aside time and quiet ourselves enough to listen... Can you hear the church bells chiming?
* funny thing about this piece- Originally I had the figure in this work to be the figure in the piece titled 'STANDING AT MY TALLEST' -but it just didn't seem to be powerful enough an image of someone in full surrender. It wasn't until after talking with a friend who told me that she is flat on her face on the floor when she is in full surrender that I decided to change the image. Instead of just painting over what I had already created, I put this one aside and started fresh on a brand new canvas. After 'STANDING At MY TALLEST' was completed I heard the song 'COME HOME' - and thats when it clicked that the image of the figure with its arms raised would become THIS new work, 'COMING HOME' .

image-artist-title-534">COMING HOME
