Carilion Clinic Hosts First NAP Patient Exhibition

Coordinator Marie Webb reached out to the NAP staff earlier this year for guidance with regards to an idea she had to host Carilion Clinic’s first ever exhibition of patient artwork.  Marie, who has successfully run the NAP program at Carilion Clinic for the last three years, wanted to showcase the other side of the healing equation by demonstrating that like employees, the patients are more than just patients, they are people too.

Public Service Employees Win Big in Philadelphia

The City of Philadelphia Public Services Department made a strong showing of their creative talents at this year’s NAP exhibit.  Most notably, the City’s police and fire departments who along with their immediate family members made up close to 10% of the 114 total participants.

Macon-Bibb County School District Shines

That experience stayed with him and he decided to introduce the program to Bibb County, Georgia. Houston reservoir reborn as public space, canvas for art

Houston's first underground drinking water reservoir — a decades-old collection of more than 200 concrete columns inside a cavernous space near downtown — had been unused for years and was set for demolition when a nonprofit group reimagined it as something new: a public space.

The 87,500-square-foot-space, dubbed the "Cistern" and reminiscent of ancient European water reservoirs, opened its doors to visitors in May. Then earlier this month, the structure's darkened pillars and walls became the canvas for a piece of modern art.

Holocaust Survivors Score Victory in Reclaiming Stolen Art

A group of Holocaust survivors and their families notched a crucial victory on Friday, as Congress approved legislation that would make it easier to reclaim art confiscated during World War II.

The unanimous vote — which came during a late-night session as the Senate worked to pass a spending bill to avert a government shutdown and wrap up its business for the year — was the culmination of a bipartisan effort to help victims whose art was taken by the Nazis and their allies. The House passed the bill on Wednesday.

Artwork Breaths Life into the Connector Hallways of The University of Chicago Medicine

The University of Chicago is a very busy place with lots of buildings, people, and connectors that can seem overwhelming. However, once a year the connector between the two main buildings is filled with the artwork of the many employees at The University of Chicago Hospital. This year, over 125 pieces adorned the walls, hung gallery style down the two hallways with works from all media; paintings, works on paper, photography, and mixed media.

First Time Participant Wins Third Place in Lubbock

Coordinator Paula Griffith knows exactly what to do to have a successful NAP Exhibit and this year she had yet another beautiful show. There were a total of 142 artworks hung for their 27th year with the program including several from first time participants. One first time entrant, artist Michael Sanchez, was encouraged by his coworkers to enter and ended up winning third place in the Intermediate category! Paula said that, “the best part of the NAP exhibit is experiencing the pride and excitement of the participants.
