Art of Life Cancer Foundation held its annual art exhibit on Sunday at Woodward Park and also held the groundbreaking of the Art of Life Healing Garden.
Dr. Christopher Perkins is an oncologist and founded the Art of Life Program in 2007.
“Nine years ago we came up with the idea to link patients with artists so they can create art to express their journey through their cancer treatment,” Perkins said.

Fantastic Twelfth Year for the City of Orlando
Coordinator Paul Wenzel had another fantastic show for the City of Orlando’s 12th Annual National Arts Program® exhibit. The show entitled ‘City ArtWorks’ ran from June 15th through August 23rd and included 145 pieces of art from City of Orlando employees and their family members. Mayor Buddy Dyer, Marcia Hope-Goodwin, Director of Neighborhood Services and Commissioner Patty Sheehan were all on hand at the June 25th awards reception. Commissioner Sheehan is a huge proponent of the arts and also happens to be a painter.

I tend to wander into art exhibits on a regular basis. Half the time on purpose and half the time led by my muse.
Last week, I wandered into the Meadows Museum of Art on the western edge of the Centenary College campus and discovered their new exhibit, Sacred Symbols in Sequins: Vintage Haitian Vodou Flags, about the religion of Haiti.
The exhibit educated me that the spelling “voodoo” is now considered incorrect.
