This painting was inspired by graffiti artist Banksy's "Girl with Balloon" and former president Donald J. Trump. The iconic Statue of Liberty symbolizing Freedom and Democracy stands in place of Banksy's little girl as an orange balloon floats away with Donald Trump's downward smirking glance embedded in it, in place of a heart shaped balloon. I think the message is pretty clear. The title is in French (the statue was a gift from France) meaning a dramatic Farewell. I find it truly appropriate that the opening at the Osceola Arts was on January 6th, the 1 year Anniversary of the attack by Trump supporters on the Capitol in an attempt to stop the democratic process of counting the Electoral College votes and certifying the results in favor of Trump's rival, Joe Biden. Democracy stood tall and held that day thanks to Vice President Mike Pence, our Representatives and Capitol police. We must be ever vigilant to any attack on this country, from without and perhaps even more disturbingly, from within.

acrylic on 140lb Fabriano; New Mexico landscape; as with many of the New Mexico paintings, this image was inspired by a photograph taken by my sister, Lesia Kuzma, while traveling through New Mexico. Also inspired by my own memories of traveling through the New Mexico landscape.

Done with white charcoal and black charcoal pencils from General's Charcoal pencils, this was one of my first portraits in charcoal.

Aspen the northern saw-whet owl is an Avian Ambassador with the Hawks Aloft Avian Rescue in Albuquerque, NM. Rescued birds that cannot be safely released back into the wild after being rehabilitated become Avian Ambassadors and serve to educate both children and adults about wild birds and their habitats in the southwestern United States, and how to better protect those habitats and the animals that occupy them. I took this photo of Aspen during a photography workshop sponsored by the rescue in September of 2019. I became aware of Hawks Aloft when several years ago they helped to monitor and relocate great horned owls that had nested on the campus of the school where I teach.

This photograph is part of a series I am currently working on called Flower Portraits. I am growing all of the flowers in this series in my garden. I photograph them all in my studio against a background and with lighting that highlights their natural beauty. I thought this Calla Lily was so delicate and had beautiful curves and subtle pink tones.

Last fall, my husband and I stayed in Florence, Italy within walking distance of the Duomo. On an early morning walk, we came upon this man setting up his vegetable and fruit stand for the day. He was totally engrossed in his work when I took the photo for this painting.

This was a commission from 2008-ish. She is drawn with pencil on paper and colored pencil on the lips. Many of my black and white portraits have some little bit of color in them. That started when I was in art school and had an entire semester of charcoal drawing...no color...I didn't know what to do with myself. So I snuck little bits of color into my assignments since it didn't say anywhere that I couldn't.

This man lives in a nursing home, where my Mom was. I asked him if I could take his picture, he replied,"Si". I never knew his name. Everyone just called him,"Papi". He looked like a man who just won a fight, with the towel around his neck. I thought his face showed alot of character.
