As I walked along the River Walk, I noticed that on the statue, someone had placed roses behind the head of the baby held by Saint Anthony. I thought by illustrating the statue in black and white to bring out its character and then restoring the color of the roses and the fern at the foot of the statue would bring even more elegance to the image.

My husband couldn't quite figure out what I was doing as he watched me taking this picture.  I am sure I was a sight as I tried to get the angle where I could see the fence and the mountains.  I love how your your eye follows the fence to the mountains in the distance which made this such an interesting picture.  It turns out this is my husband's favorite.  I ended up having to remove power lines and a pole to get the final picture I wanted.  I think it was worth the effort.

These items as the vast majority of ceramics start as bisque. Bisque is fired greenware which is created by pouring the slip (the ceramic mixture) into a mold and let stand for a set period of time depending on the consistency of the mix. This is then cleaned and prepared for painting. They can then be painted with acrylics or glazed. This particular mold was painted with acrylic paints.
