It's never too early to start earning money as an artist in Asheville.
Mason McNabb, age 6, sold one of his paintings for $160 at the Art in the Park event June 25.
Mason's father, Corey McNabb, is a local artist that shows regularly at Art in the Park. Mason McNabb was with his father at the June 11 Art in the Park event when he asked his father if he could show his paintings, too.
"When he asked me that I said, 'Well, it's not up to me, it's up to the promoters,' and I kind of explained how it worked a little bit," Corey McNabb said. "And when the promoter, Andrew, came by the booth again, [Mason] asked him, 'May I put some of my paintings in the booth next week?'"
Andrew Montrie, coordinator for Art in the Park, told Mason McNabb that he could show his paintings in his father's tent as long as he followed the rules of the event and contributed no more than 25% of the paintings in the tent.
When Caitlin Hudson, a tourist from West Virginia, saw McNabb's paintings and expressed interest, McNabb spent time discussing each one with her before Hudson settled on one titled "Water." Though McNabb had originally priced the piece at $200, he accepted $160 after brief negotiation with Hudson.
