Gaston Day sophomore wins honors in National Arts Program®

Jewel Wasson, a sophomore at Gaston Day School sophomore, won honors for two pieces she submitted in the National Arts Program competition in Charlotte.

 

The first piece, “Chained” was a collage made from a photograph of a friend. This piece won a second place ribbon in the teen category and a $50 cash prize.

 

Her second entry, “The Commitment” is a block print piece depicting an engagement ring worn on her cousin’s finger.

 

The National Arts Program fosters creativity by providing artists with an opportunity to exhibit their works publicly.

 

The National Arts Program Foundation sponsors the program in support and cooperation with the vity of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County and the Arts & Science Council. Professional artists and art professionals judge the exhibit. Cash awards and art scholarships are awarded to participants for original, creative contributions in the field of fine arts and crafts.

 

These artwork will be displayed through the end of February in the lobby of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center.

 

Jewel is the daughter of Laura Wasson.
