Governor attends State of Delaware National Arts Program Exhibit

Delaware State University Art Center/Gallery Director, Jennifer Gunther and Delaware Division of the Arts Deputy Director, Kristin Pleasanton pose in the gallery filled with 248 pieces that were displayed in the 14th Annual NAP Employee Art Exhibit.

The 14th Annual Delaware State Employee Art Exhibition was incredibly well attended this year with a grand total of 917 visitors taking in this incredible showcase! Included in those that came to visit the gallery and honor the artists were Delaware’s Governor Matt Meyer, Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay, Secretary of Education Cynthia Marten as well as the Secretary of Human Resources, Yvonne Gordon Anders. Governor Meyer, pictured above, attended the exhibit with his adorable son, and posted, "Thanks to the DE Division of the Arts and all of the talented artists who shared their work with Levi and I today at the 14th Annual Delaware State Employee Art Exhibition!"

Kristin Pleasanton, Deputy Director for the Delaware Division of the Arts, (and amazing coordinator of this longstanding exhibition), shared that the artwork this year was particularly exciting. The wide range of media included a giant ceramic snail; a large, traditional Native American style handmade drum, stained glass, and various printmaking techniques, just to mention a few! A professional photographer was hired for the first time to photograph the full exhibition of 209 artworks for publicity purposes. These were then used to produce an exhibition catalogue featuring color images of the entire showcase that will be provided to each of the participating artists.

The NAP showcase and the awards reception are held each year in the beautiful University of Delaware Art Center/Gallery. Over 276 guests were in attendance at the March 9th awards reception, and all treated to refreshments, arts activities, and giveaways. Assisting in the production of the show were three Delaware State University student interns and a student gallery assistant. We are so grateful for the Delaware Division of the Arts and their partnership with the University of Delaware each year that makes this one of our most successful National Arts Program Exhibits across the country!
