For more than a dozen young artists in Montgomery, Alabama, Thursday night served as a chance to garner some gallery exposure while showing off their talents during the "15 under 40" exhibit reception at Stonehenge Gallery.
Gallery Director Richard Metzger said the purpose of the exhibit, which will be on display for 10 days, is to give young artists experience in a gallery setting so they won't feel intimidated or uncertain when approaching different venues in the future.
"It's the first time we've done a group show of underexposed local artists from the community," said Metzger. "It's important for the community to look at young people and young work. It's important for us, as a gallery, to look at young artists and their work."
While Metzger said the gallery had considered featuring a show consisting mostly of pieces submitted by young artists in the past, it wasn't until Madison Faile, the gallery's intern and a senior at Troy University, took on the project that it became a concrete plan.
