Philadelphia Releases Weekly Featured Artist Spotlights
Coordinator Tu Huynh accompanies Mayor Michael Nutter as he attempts to make his winning choice.
The staff of the National Arts Program® were present to help the City of Philadelphia celebrate their Fifteenth Anniversary this year. The reception took place in Conversation Hall with Mayor Nutter in attendance and included a slideshow of photos of many of the past NAP events. Mayor Michael Nutter has taken a special interest in the city's NAP show over the years and makes it a point to take in all the artwork personally, both prior to and during the show. This year, he was once again asked to choose his pick for the Best of Show Award.
A new concept was incorporated this year by dedicated coordinator Tu Huyhn. After collecting the artwork for the show, they began releasing a weekly feature on individual city employee artists on their website (www.creativephl.org), which included questions about the program and what the opportunity means to them. The employee artists that were chosen included individuals such as David Glass, our featured spotlight and Kevin Vaughan, the newly retired Deputy Health Commissioner. “As a past participant of the National Arts Program®, Kevin has exhibited his wildlife photography taken around the city. For this year’s exhibition he took a photo of a unique Philadelphia resident, a peregrine falcon that calls City Hall home.”
Artist Kevin Vaughan often spent time high over Center City shooting peregrine falcons who nest in City Hall.
Focusing on the unique talents of these spectacular individuals is exactly what the NAP aims to do. We congratulate all the amazing artists that took part in their 2014 show!
