VIA Puts Employee Talents On Display

VIA Metropolitan Transit always strives to improve the wellbeing of its employees and the annual employee and family art exhibit is just one way they celebrate their VIA community. Employee Services Specialist Daniel Rodriguez coordinates this exhibition and handles all aspects from promotion straight through to the awards reception and beyond.

This year, for their 9th Annual exhibition, 140 pieces of art are on display in The Grand at VIA Villa through October 25th. Most VIA departments and divisions were represented, with submissions coming in from across the agency.

Daniel shared that “what VIA values about the employee art contest and exhibit is that it invites employees to share with us how they express themselves in unique ways that are independently their own.  By sharing their artistic expressions, it permits co-workers to expand our perspective of one another outside of the business of the day and allows us to better acquaint ourselves with our peers and their families.  The collection of artworks in every exhibit has often been joyous, thought provoking, sincere, and passionate.  Art is an extremely personal expression and VIA always appreciates the contributions from its employees in making the exhibit a success.

One such contribution is by Fleet & Facilities Employee, Raul Pena.  Raul is a returning artist who has placed in the last three years of the exhibit, placing first in the intermediate category this year. Additionally, Raul’s children, Madison and Dean, have participated in the last three years, with Madison placing consecutively and earning a First Place award this year in the Teen category, and Dean who earned an Honorable Mention award in the 2018 exhibit.

The art contest and exhibit has given employees like Raul and his family an opportunity to showcase their talent.  However, more than this, it has given their family an opportunity to come together year after year and bond as a family of artists.”
