Record Participation for the University of Arizona

“Wild Thing Mask” by Michelle Fealk; Intermediate, People’s Choice; Mixed Media; Employee, Department of Trauma Surgery

Claudia Arias is the coordinator for the Annual ‘On Our Own Time Art Exhibit’ at the University of Arizona. This was their seventh annual show since partnering with the National Arts Program® and their exhibits just seem to get better and better with every passing year. Claudia has a tremendous work load, but makes time to handle all the responsibilities of this amazing exhibit. We are so thankful for Claudia’s hard work and for the assistance of the University of Arizona Student Media Department that partnered with her this year in order to assist in handling the promotional responsibilities of the exhibit. The media sponsorship package donated from the Daily Wildcat included full color ads both in print and online as well as a twitter campaign. They also produced a welcome poster which they framed for display at the awards reception. Together they were able to rally 152 participants this year which was a record for them.  In total 207 artworks were professionally displayed in the Student Union Memorial Center Gallery, representing an astounding 98 different university departments!

The reception was held on Saturday, May 7th and had an estimated 175 guests in attendance. The participants and guests to the exhibit were also invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award. The winner was ‘Wild Thing Mask’ a wonderful mixed media piece by Department of Trauma Surgery employee, Michelle Fealk (pictured above). The NAP would like to congratulate not only Michelle but all of the participants and winners from the 2016 University of Arizona NAP Exhibit!
