Youth Takes Best of Show in Ventura County, CA
The 11th Annual Ventura County National Arts Program® Exhibit was displayed for almost seven weeks straight, from November 30th, 2012 through January 15th, 2013. As usual, Margaret Travers coordinated a beautiful display and awards reception. Over 130 entries were submitted by Ventura County employees and their immediate family members. Of special note was the Best of Show piece from the youth 12 & under category, by Nico Kalin. Nico produced an amazing linoleum cut and displayed it side by side with one of his colorful prints (artwork pictured below).

The Ventura show is always hung on all floors of the Hall of Administration’s Atrium Lobby in the Ventura County Government Center allowing it to be viewed from many angles and levels. This grand space was also the setting for their reception which drew a crowd of approximately 175 guests that enjoyed the artwork and the festivities. Live music sung by The Harmony Channel, refreshments and media coverage by the Ventura County Star made it a truly enjoyable night. Coordinator Margaret Travers commented that, “it is an exhibit that encourages “shy artists” to participate who would not otherwise enter work in our other shows during the year. In this sense it is a stepping stone that has led creative people into the local mainstream of artists.”
