Vineland library hosts local senior art show

 

An annual Cumberland County art exhibit rejuvenates local senior citizens through art and competition.

 

The Older Americans Art Exhibit and Competition continues through July 31 on the first floor of Vineland Public Library. The Cumberland County Office on Aging and Disabled sponsors the event.

 

The show’s main purpose is for local artists to have an outlet for the enjoyment and love of art, said Melissa Bliston, administrative assistant for the Office on Aging. It also doubles as a contest for professional and amateur artists older than 60 to flex their creative muscles.

 

“We have a reception and we have a jury contest for participants,” Bliston said.

 

Winners will be announced at the closing reception, set for 1 p.m. on July 31 in the library’s Doris Tripp Room. From there, the local winners have higher hopes.

 

“The first-place winners at the county level have an opportunity to submit their artwork to the state show,” Bliston said.
