Stray Rescue dogs contribute to art exhibit

 

If an artiste says arf a lot, he then should have an artistic name befitting his bark.

 

‘Sir Periwinkle the third,’ says Randy Grim.  ‘I mean, come on.  I don’t want them to just be considered dogs in the shelter.’

 

That’s because some of the pooches at Randy Grim’s Stray Rescue made some of the paintings in the new Urban Wanderers exhibit.

 

Area artists have also contributed canine and cat inspired photos, sculptures and more at the St. Louis University Museum of Art.

 

‘I love that it’s street dogs and cats that are turned into immortal piece of art,’ says Grim.  ‘How cool is that?’

 

This is the fifth year for the Stray Rescue exhibit that tells the recovery stories of abandoned and abused animals in St. Louis.

 

‘I think that’s what makes the exhibit very special because you’re looking at a lot of survivors that survived really horrific conditions and horrific animal abuse,’ says Grim.

 

Urban Wanderers runs through July 27th. Then, the artwork will be auctioned off to benefit Stray Rescue who will continue their work bringing them new beginnings and new names to animals in need.

 

‘You have to name them pretty much on the spot and I always try to stay upbeat when I’m out there.  So I use names that make me laugh,’ says Grim.

 

And who can’t get behind a painting called Golden Girl, made by Betti White…the dog.
