New Coordinator Brings Record Numbers to Front Range, CO
Shiv Ghosh, who won Second Place in the Youth 12 & Under category for the piece entitled “Bird & Bees”, was one of 21 youth participants who took part in this year’s show.
Sylvia Armstrong, Front Range’s new NAP coordinator, had lots to celebrate at their awards reception, held at the Philip S. Miller Library on October 17th. Not only did she successfully coordinate her first NAP show, but she also broke the record for the number of participants as well as the number of pieces exhibited. The 8th annual exhibition featured 250 pieces of artwork, which is a 62% increase from 2013, by 114 participants ranging in age from 3 to 90. Sylvia commented that, “the depth and variety of our show this year was amazing!”
Although this was Sylvia’s first time coordinating the NAP show, she is not new to the role of art chair. She previously oversaw the Greater Castle Rock Art Guild’s juried show entitled “Romancing the Arts”. This show varies slightly from the NAP as it features original works by residents age 18 and up that have been selected by a jury to be exhibited. So Sylvia thought it was especially nice to be able to include the Youth & Teen categories in the NAP show. In addition, she was extremely excited about the number of participants in these two categories, mentioning that it was great to see the “future Picassos’ of tomorrow!”
It is always inspiring to see a new coordinator take ownership of the program when they take over the exhibit. We would like to extend our congratulations to Sylvia for all her hard work and look forward to seeing what the future holds for Front Range!
