17 Years of Celebrating the Art in Union County, NJ

Libby Reid can be credited with seventeen wonderful years of bringing art forward from the Union County, New Jersey community. This year alone 162 varied and outstanding pieces of visual art were put on display for all to enjoy. Not only does the main show hang for almost two months but once the exhibition comes down, the winning artworks travel to the Freeholders Gallery to be displayed for an additional two weeks.

After so many years coordinating this show Libby understands the process and knows just what to expect. She always makes excellent use of the non-matching scholarship and puts on a wonderful reception to honor the artists each year. This year’s reception took place on May 2nd and approximately 100 guests attended. The celebration included food, refreshments and live music performed by David Mondragon. Libby commented that when artists were called up during the awards reception, “they are glowing with pride and their happiness is contagious”.

Although the reception was enjoyed by all, Libby still says one of her favorite parts of the event is “drop of day” when she gets the opportunity to enjoy the first view of the artists with their artwork and the chance to speak with them.  She hears from artists, adults and children, how much they enjoy this event and look forward to planning their entries each year.
