Philadelphia Celebrates the NAP 'Art in City Hall'

The staff of the National Arts Program were in attendance to help the City of Philadelphia celebrate their Nineteenth Annual show this year. 
For this year’s showcase, the Best in Show was selected by Brian Abernathy, new Managing Director for the City of Philadelphia. The first, second and third place awards for each category were selected by Rafael Damast, Exhibit Program Manager and Curator at Taller Puertorriqueno. Known as The Cultural Heart of Latino Philadelphia, Taller Puertorriqueño uses art to promote development within its community and build bridges to the Greater Philadelphia region. 
The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy does a tremendous job executing their NAP show each year. This year they hung over 180 pieces by 113 artists. The artists, employees, and their families were invited to celebrate the opening of the exhibition in the Mayor’s Reception Room in City Hall. The room was the perfect grand space to honor these artists and present their prizes, ribbons and certificates. It was a joyous occasion and everyone proceeded to take in the art in the exhibit while enjoying food and drinks in nearby  Conversation Hall. 
A fun element that the team incorporated into the reception this year was the opportunity for artists to take photos or selfies with a prop! It was a fun way to encourage artists to stand proudly near their artwork allowing attendees a chance to match an amazing artwork with its creator!
