State of Delaware Provides In-Person and Virtual Exhibit Experiences

The State of Delaware employees and their family members once again showcased their amazing talents in the Ninth Annual NAP Exhibit with visitors commenting that the caliber of work was the highest quality they had seen yet.  Coordinator Kristin Pleasanton agreed with this sentiment and even mentioned that it was the “most exciting to date!” Kristin credits this to the inclusion of some really unique pieces in this year’s show.  The exhibit, which featured 242 pieces by distinctive individuals, included a hand-carved ceramic chess set, a king size quilt (which was awarded Best of Show) and a handmade dress.  All these wonderful pieces combined to create a beautiful show that was curated and displayed at the Delaware State University (DSU) Art Center / Gallery.

Due to the current restrictions in place and the safety of the employees, the awards reception was cancelled. Luckily Kristin has already thought of ways to help recognize the winners and help people to experience the gallery virtually. Images of the amazing gallery and all the awards winners will be available on the Delaware Division of the Arts website. Along with this, all images of the entries from this year’s show can be viewed on their Facebook page as they were available for people to vote for the People’s Choice award.

In addition to voting for the People’s Choice award online, Kristin also offered the opportunity to vote for the award in person at the gallery.  This resulted in two winners – one by ballot and one by online voting.  Along with these two additional awards, four ‘special’ awards were presented to artworks featuring the following subject matter - Cityscape, Portrait, Animal and Abstract. While none of these awards are required by the NAP, they are a nice extra that allows for there to be even a few more participants who receive recognition of their artwork in such a large exhibit.

The NAP is extremely grateful for the dedication and hard work that goes into putting on an exhibition of this size and look forward to celebrating the State of Delaware’s 10th Anniversary next year!
