Tremendous Turnout for Hartford National Arts Program

There has been a National Arts Program show in Hartford, Connecticut for a remarkable 29 years. Not only has the show been running for so many years but it is also consistently one of our largest showcases with a whopping 348 entries this year! One particularly successful aspect of the show is there recurring “Teens looking out for Teens” category. This opportunity allows teens to learn about and express their feelings about social issues through their art. The teen showcase is just one special part of their NAP exhibit which was on display starting on February 11th at the Capital Community College.

With 99 adult amateurs, 87 intermediates, 34 professionals, 64 teens and 34 youth you can just imagine the varied and wonderful collection of artwork they put on display. There is so much amazing art it must have been extremely difficult for the panel of seven artist judges to make the Best of Show selection. However, there is no denying the extraordinary skill that went into their selection, “Self Portrait” by Micaela Levesque (pictured here). Exposing incredible artworks such as this is one of the reasons the NAP exists. We strive to showcase the sometimes hidden talents of communities and share that art in a professional exhibit that is open for all the public to enjoy.

Coordinator Ilana Bernstein and the rest of the Community Renewal Team have continued to do a wonderful job organizing this large showcase and are always brainstorming ways to make the process easier and more streamlined for all involved.
