Toya Wallace
Toya Wallace is a contemporary mixed-media artist. Most of her artwork is created using recycled materials except her charcoal drawings. Toya uses bright colors and a variety of textures when creating her artwork. Using recycled materials allows her the freedom to do this. She often incorporates African and Native American symbols into her artwork to appreciate and celebrate her African and Native American Heritages. Toya often incorporates materials that once belonged to deceased family members when creating her art. She says, “This is my accolade to my ancestors and family.” Toya has won multiple visual art awards and has held exhibitions at The Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington NC, The CAB Art Gallery at UNC Wilmington, The National Humanities Center, Research Triangle Park, NC, The Duke Campus Club Exhibit Wall at Duke University, Durham, NC, Duke University in the Bryan Center, Duke University Hospital, Mark Jacobson Toyota Art Gallery, Durham, NC, The Durham NC CenterFest Arts Festival, The Art Museum at North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC, The NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC and The Renaissance Art Center in Wake Forest, NC. Toya is a recent graduate of Duke University's Graduate School, graduating on May 13. 2023.
