Deborah graded from Meredith College with a B.A. in Religion, Art and Education in 1978. She received her M.A.Ed. in Arts Education in 1980 from East Carolina University. She has taught Visual Arts in the public schools for 31 years before retiring July 2012. She is now continuing to use and develop her art talents through her photography and painting as well as in her local community .
