Debbie graduated from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, in 1970, with a diploma in Graphic Design. She studied painting as a freshman, but never pursued it.
After a forty-year hiatus she enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College where she studied painting for seven years. Her preferred medium is oil.
Currently, she prefers painting photo-realist still lifes and parking signs. In these she invites you to take an intimate look at everyday objects.
She is a member of the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD.

I have been working lately to show motion in still life. Placement of shadows is key.

My favorite so far. The strong horizontals contrast nicely with the falling objects.

I enjoy playing with shadows to make objects seem to be in motion. It's a nice twist to a classic still life.
Still Life with Pineapples
Still Life with Pineapples
Painting
In this painting both objects are pineapples, but the artist shows the irony of the hospitality icon along with a symbol of war. Also, the green clip denotes a live grenade (as opposed to a dummy grenade). And the pineapple is a "sugar bomb"! This painting creates a dialogue between the viewer and the work.
