April Sullivan
Huichol Indians in Mexico, was first introduced to me in my art history studies. I admired these colorful representations of the artist’s religious world. I was fascinated by the designs and patterns that the yarn formed as it was pressed into beeswax. Using my own unique style, I create Yarn Paintings by drawing the outline of a picture on black illustration board. The subject matter of my drawings are simple images from nature and the world around me. I apply an adhesive layer of acid-free double stick mounting film to the board. I add the threads one at a time until the space is filled.
