Huichol Indians in Mexico, was first introduced to me in my art history studies. I admired these colorful representations of the artist’s religious world. I was fascinated by the designs and patterns that the yarn formed as it was pressed into beeswax. Using my own unique style, I create Yarn Paintings by drawing the outline of a picture on black illustration board. The subject matter of my drawings are simple images from nature and the world around me. I apply an adhesive layer of acid-free double stick mounting film to the board. I add the threads one at a time until the space is filled.

This work of art was created by a process called Yarn Painting. I start by drawing. Then I add an adhesive layer over the drawing. Then I lay lengths of yarn in bright colors onto the adhesive. This is a whimsical piece that from afar looks like an ice cream cone with a scoop of vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate with a cherry on top. When you look closer, you see it is three kittens on top of the cone. One licking it's paw. One sleeping peacefully. And one playing with the cherry.
