I am a photographer, living and loving life in Sonoma County, California.
Art has always been an important part of my life. My mother was a painter and my father was an art collector. Although I have taken photography classes, and workshops, I am primarily self-taught. The catalog from the1955 seminal exhibit, Edward Steichen’s “The Family of Man,” was a major reason why I became interested in photography.
Flowers are my special love. I’d like to think Georgia O’Keefe would be proud. Landscapes and other genres interest me as well. The San Francisco Bay Area, with its temperate climate and spectacular views, offers me a seemingly endless list of subjects. And don’t get me started about sunsets.
I am an active member of Santa Rosa Photographic Society. My work has been recognized at club competitions as well as by the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs (N4C).
Half a Sunflower Is Better than None
Half a Sunflower Is Better than None

Each artist faces the same challenge when portraying a familiar subject - how to show the subject with a fresh perspective. I love sunflowers. Each one is different. How best to show a field of thousands at a local winery? I used my macro lens to capture one close up with the rest out of focus in the background.

As a photographer, I am always looking for new places to aim my camera. The best part of living in the San Francisco Bay Area is that in any season or weather, there is always something wonderful to shoot. This photo shows the rolling hills of west Sonoma County in late summer when the grasses are golden and dry from lack of rain, which won't come until early fall.

Fog transforms everything. The details recede and only shapes and soft colors remain. This photo was taken in the early morning at my local park.

This is a dandelion originally shot in color and then converted to black and white. I like how black and white reduces the details to shape and light.

As I sat in a state of shock and sadness watching the events unfold at the Capitol, my heart bled. I looked over at my laptop screen and saw a perfect rose. Perfection and beauty did not reflect the day, so I sought to transform the original image into one that reflected that sad day.

The 'Stargazer' lily was created in 1974 by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder in California, to overcome this downward look. Woodriff called the new cross 'Stargazer', because the blooms faced towards the sky, unlike other lilies.

The Great White Egret has a wingspan of 5 feet or more. I caught this one flying over Bodega Bay late in the day so the wing was backlit and reflected in the calm water. The black and white enhances the calm of the image.

This Spider Gerbera daisy jumped out at me from a bouquet I bought at a local farmer's market. The color was so vibrant it reminded me of an explosion, and so I used a creative technique to transform the original photo to show that.
