I didn't pursue art; it’s always been there with me. I’ve ignored it plenty of times while driving onward to get a ‘good paying job’. The secret was listening to the inner voice that kept asking ‘what are you waiting for’. The real question was ‘what was I afraid of?’ . I work with fiber, acrylic, found objects to develop 3 dimensional forms for viewing pleasure.

This piece was part of the Carolina Mixed Media Art Guilds challenge. A kit was provided that included several objects which were to be incorporated into the art work. There were restrictions on the piece such as all but 3 objects must be used, a substrate and items used to attach pieces could be added. Some of the objects in this piece include a sewing machine bobbin, restistors, a map, cigar label, organza, dictionary pages, sewing pattern, bullet casings, light bulbs ... The bird on the horse's head was created from melting a rubber wine cork. ART is the gentleman on back of the horse, constructed of the pattern, yarn for his hair, bullet casing and light bulbs are his binoculars. He is Looking For Art ...

A hapless and naïve bird watcher inadvertently disturbs an egret. The bird watcher with his “Bird Guide to the Inter-coastal Waterways’ book and binoculars, didn’t heed the sign to be careful around the estuaries as some birds get a little perturbed when humans come tromping in, disrespecting the animals peace and quiet. Some humans are just downright rude!
This particular egret has decided to provide the birder a view of the inter-coastal waterways that wasn’t in the guidebook.
The sculpture is from fabric, cut and formed as feathers, neck and wings are from different twines, legs and feet of sculpted copper, bird watcher hand made body and clothes. Bird is standing across driftwood adorned with real marsh grasses and shells. This was another Carolina Mixed Media Art Guild Challenge for 2010.
