Denver and Snowmass Village based visual artist, Anne Marie Kratz, paints in oils to capture the true juxtaposition of modern western life. The intertwining of rugged components like a skull, accented by a delicate flower similar to one you might find on a mountain hike are inspiring to her vision. Using a rich vibrant color palette and confident brushstrokes to create art that simultaneously soothes and the stimulates the audience, she has a fresh approach to Western Art.

Upon reading the poem by Mary Oliver, The Journey, I was inspired to put together this still life and paint the items my mother saved from my childhood. By going back in time in a very personal way, I was able to feel joy, let go of pain and recognize my artist voice telling me that we, as a society, are all worth saving. But, ultimately, as in the poem, 'The only life you could save', is your own. I hope my paintings make the viewers feel they are worthy of feeling joy and can let go of pain.
