I am a sociologist who studies how doctors, patients, and health care systems work. Sometimes my work is full of statistics and other times I try to understand the meaning, context, or nuance of something. Keeping an artist's eye honed helps me span these "two cultures," and I often rely on my early art school training to look at things in different ways to find out what they are. Making art is often about discovering what I'm looking at as much as it is about creating something new.
