This young woman has just lost her husband in a car wreck. She has come to the church to beg God for help and understanding of her lose. The mourning has overcome her and leads to her death.
Even though she has passed she remains here as a ghost in purgatory. In a state of anguish she returns to the gravesite of her lost husband. The sorrow keeps her from finding the path she should take that will release her from expiatory purification.
