I have been an artist most of my life. My formal training began at UIC where I earned my BFA in Graphic Design in 1993, and then my MA in Art Education at the University of New Mexico in 1999. I have been teaching art, graphic design, and photography at Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico from 1999 to the present. I have continued my own work along the way, focusing mostly on photography and design as both a personal and professional pursuit. More of my work can be viewed at www.highwayflower.com or on Instagram @highwayflower_art.

Dulcita the great horned owl is an Avian Ambassador with the Hawks Aloft Avian Rescue in Albuquerque, NM. Rescued birds that cannot be safely released back into the wild after being rehabilitated become Avian Ambassadors and serve to educate both children and adults about wild birds and their habitats in the southwestern United States, and how to better protect those habitats and the animals that occupy them. I took this photo of Dulcita during a photography workshop sponsored by the rescue in September of 2019. I became aware of Hawks Aloft when they helped to monitor and relocate great horned owls that had nested on the campus of the school where I teach several years ago.
