Hunter Atha is a multidisciplinary fiber artist whose work is centered around the varied processes of dyeing material–using both natural and synthetic methods. Aware of the physical meaning the technique establishes, the subject matter and techniques blend to make harmonious and thoughtful works.
Deeply inspired by color and pattern, Atha uses combinations of hues to develop works that conjure emotion, while bringing together themes of self-identity and memory.

Hand dyed cotton and cyanotype print on cotton pieced quilt
Created from all hand dyed cotton fabric, Prairie State Lonestar is pieced together using found organic material and plants from around my neighborhood and printed onto fabric using the cyanotype process. Capturing the UV rays of the sun, cyanotypes burn the image into the fabric revealing a vibrant blue hue.
