Justin Forman
I am an emerging sculptor working primarily in wood and stone, creating abstract figurative forms that explore the space between the human body and raw material. My practice is grounded in an intuitive, hands-on process, allowing the natural qualities of each material — grain, weight, texture, resistance — to guide the final form.
Through carving and shaping, I aim to suggest the human figure without fully defining it. Limbs, torsos, and gestures are fragmented, softened, or reimagined, inviting viewers to engage with the work emotionally rather than literally. The abstraction allows room for personal interpretation, memory, and movement, while the figurative elements maintain a quiet sense of familiarity and presence.
I am drawn to wood and stone for their history, durability, and connection to time. Each piece reflects a balance between control and surrender, where marks of the process remain visible and imperfections are embraced. My work seeks to create a dialogue between material, form, and viewer — offering sculptures that feel both grounded and open-ended.
