Kay Gross works with "warm" glass techniques to fuse and cast contemporary glass sculpture. Her husband, Doug Gross, works with steel and the two combine their designs in unique ways. They are both influenced by the beauty of line and shape when it interacts with the reflective qualities of both steel and glass. Their art studio, FireForge Art Glass, is designed to allow glass work and steel work in separate spaces with a "meeting of steel and glass" area in between. Working together has been a tremendous blessing for this artistic couple.
Fair Winds
Fair Winds
Sculpture
Sailing in the Sea of Cortez was the inspiration for this piece - gentle breezes and rippling ocean waves. The technique used to create the waves and bubbling effect is unique and may or may not be reproducible. The brushed natural steel allows the glass to reflect, while the transparency and iridescence of the glass changes with the surrounding light.
