"Birth of a Man"
Painting
"Birth of a Man" by Tony Williams 2010. 4' x 8' acrylic on paper foam board.
"Birth of a Man" is the first painting in a series of three Body Image paintings. Although all the tracings were done at the same time, each painting took on new meaning, painting style and technique, and a revelation of a powerful, joyous and eye opening experience. "Birth of a Man" I choose the fetal position because it displayed a safe, closed, and physical perspective of life. This piece of art received its strength from my personal experience with the birth of two male children, both born with the umbilical cords around their necks and how powerful birth can be each birth giving life and new beginnings. Lastly, finding the light, in the face of darkness, is “Ascension”, the third in a series of paintings. “Ascension” reveals how we must let go of all our inhabitations, thus “freeing” oneself to accept life on life's term, calling on your higher power; hence, experiencing a spiritual awakening.

"Fallen" by Tony Williams 2010. 4' x 8' acrylic on paper foam board.
"Fallen" was chosen as the second series of Body Image paintings. We often fall down in the midst of adversity yet we get up! Sometimes in life, human experiences may cause emotions and life's issues to“knock you down” and make you fall, feeling empty and alone. It is at those times when one can find their inner strength to get up, brush yourself off, and keep moving, Other times, one has to fall to make a change to move forward, rising above, and coming face to face with your fears. Falling will only makes you stronger. Tony Williams
