Tom Hale is a fourth generation, visual artist, that works in different mediums. Tom was born in Baltimore, Maryland. At an early age he immersed himself in the worlds and characters he created using pencil, pen and markers. As he grew, so did his experience with different mediums. His Uncle helped expose him to materials and skills that he still uses to this day.
Tom worked as a graphic artist and printer in the textile screen printing industry. He utilized the computer graphics knowledge he had gained to work in the newspaper publishing industry as an ad builder and graphic artist. After serving a formal apprenticeship, Tom spent twenty years as a professional tattoo artist. It was through these jobs, that he gained more exposure to different subject matter, styles and the ability to convey, in image, other people’s ideas.
Using recycled material or repurposed items has opened a whole new way to express ideas and feelings, while bringing new life to things that would have been disposed of. Exploring different mediums and ways to use different materials has continued to help Tom express himself and explore other worlds and characters.

Other
Acrylic on wood. This was made from a piece of wood board that the knot had separated from and another scrap piece of the same board. I am a bit of a wood hoarder and I wanted to start up cycling these scraps.

Painting
Watercolor on Canson paper 18”x24” Painted for the Healing Arts Exhibit at Baltimore’s University of Maryland Medical Center. I wanted to show the compassion of the caregiver. The elements and energy that connects us all are the caregivers tools, as well as their heart.
