Barriers don't always stand in the way, sometimes just redirect your path.

These young women are harvesting the “3 Sisters” Crop in the traditional way. 3 Sisters is Corn Beans and Squash. The beans need the corn to grow tall, so they can climb the stalks and produce beans, the Squash need to be shaded by the Corn & Beans: It is an allegory of how humanity must cooperate, supporting the strengths and weaknesses of each other. Marjorie is the Healer and Elder of the Tribe, and kindly borrowed the Traditional headband basket from the Museum to pose with it. Also the lovely girl in fringed buskin holding the Tribal traditional dyed basket is a relict of the Tribe.

There is plenty for all. In the background is lantern hill, with white outcroppings of Mica. In the days of Sailing Ships, these could be seen far out to see, and they could navigate by the Mica shimmering in the moonlight, so the mountain is named Lantern Hill. It is sacred to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Very sacred dances and prayers are offered by the Elders on the top of Lantern Hill. Archaeologists have traced the area back to 10,000 years of the Tribe. The brilliant colors of the Birch, Maple, Green of the Pines cover the painting in Autumn Splendour.

This self portrait was created using an MRI image of the artist's brain and head, which were 3D rendered in the program OsiriX. The DNA (silver) and RNA (pink) were created in Blender. The crystal structure of the RNA polymerase II (orange) was imported from the protein data bank and manipulated using Blender. the image of the neuronal nuclei was obtained via confocal microscopy. The blue is Hoescht dye, which stains for nucelar DNA. The pink dots in the background are RNA that were visualized by Cy5-labeled RNA FISH probes against the repeat RNAs that are transcribed (observed in the foreground). The green is the protein, nucleolin, that was stained with nucleolin-specific primary antibodies and Alexa 488 tagged secondary antibodies. Yellow represents the co-localization of hexanucleotide repeat RNA with nucleolin (Cy5 + Alexa488). All of the images were compiled and edited in the software GIMP.

The painting displayed is of my dog, Ebony, who died in 2015 due to lymphoma cancer. At the time, I was pregnant with my son, but she stayed by my side until she got worst. She was my best friend and no one understood me more than she did.

My students and I created a mural from a diverse series of photographs we took in Boston over the course of a three-week ESL summer program.  We've included (clockwise from top left) the "Tortoise and Hare" statues in Copley Square (Nancy Schon), a scenic landscape from Castle Island, "Dante and Virgil" (Baron Henri de Triqueti) at the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Massachusetts State House on Beacon Street.  We thought the two statues and two buildings balance each other very well to represent the diversity and accessibility of Boston itself.  Boston is a great place to compare Nature vs. Mankind, Tradition vs. Innovation, Ephemerality vs. Permanence.  Plus, there's just, all kinds of really cool stuff to do here!
