If you are like me - when I go to grocery stores, I discriminately pick my fruit before purchasing - disregarding any fruit with slight flaws. In this picture series (soon to be shown), this isn't how this local farmer picks his apples. He climbs high in the trees - leaning his ladder against the long tree branches - picking all his apples. It was amazing to see.

Another piece that is combining Bonalumi's 3D approach using Fontana's open-up-space solution; a personal favorite for the repetitive fontalumi gesture!
Although, in theory, I understand the difficulty of showing 3D work in pictures, I am certainly falling for the hundred year old trap of assuming that this showing of the 3D work is somewhat a true representation of the real thing!...

The beautiful lighting on this peony bloom inspired me to paint it in a large macro format.  Although I painted it realistically in oils, visualizing it in macro format makes it seem almost abstract in nature.

MANDEM is a working team of artists, one of whom lives with the genetic disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) that causes failure of connective tissue. The Hypermobility series recenters that disability as a form of beauty via MANDEM's signature approach to the classical realist tradition of figure painting. Using studio models diagnosed with connective tissue disorders, such as EDS, the series captures moments where joints hyperextend or dislocate and the body moves into broken-seeming, impossible configurations. These technique-oriented mixed media/oil paintings explode the line between medical documentation and art. This project began during MANDEM's artist residency at the Associazione Culturale Il Palmerino (Florence, Italy). Hypermobility has exhibited in Italy, England, Canada, and the United States.
