Frozen Section Man Study
Painting
Acrylic on Canvas, 11" X 14" X 1.5". A frozen section is an immediate evaluation of tissue by a pathologist at the time of an operative procedure usually used to guide the surgeon's next decision. Fresh issue is frozen so that very thin slices can be sectioned on a cryostat, mounted on a glass slide, stained and examined under a microscope. The central image of "Frozen Section Man Study" is an anthropomorphic figure, the top half of which represents a microscope and the bottom half of which represents a cryostat. A thin wash of blue was employed to help the figure emerge from the multilayered background.
