Down Under
Painting
This painting is my reflection on the fact that you can't tell, by outward appearance, what might be going on inside another person. Very few people are what they appear just on the surface. Most people outwardly go about their daily lives, their work and activities, while they inwardly struggle--down under--with an entire interior landscape of thoughts, concerns, fears, hopes and emotions. I have presented this inner landscape in abstract form, using a pastel collage, which has been mounted on a birch panel and then overpainted with oil and cold wax. The panel has been routed with a "keyhole" for ease of hanging, so no hardware is required. The painting has been given a satin varnish for protection and long life.
