This is a painting I did for a client who is very committed to animal rights, but in particular the cause for bringing awareness to the abuse of elephants.

MANDEM is a working team of artists, one of whom lives with the genetic disorder Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) that causes failure of connective tissue. The Hypermobility series recenters that disability as a form of beauty via MANDEM's signature approach to the classical realist tradition of figure painting. Using studio models diagnosed with connective tissue disorders, such as EDS, the series captures moments where joints hyperextend or dislocate and the body moves into broken-seeming, impossible configurations. These technique-oriented mixed media/oil paintings explode the line between medical documentation and art. This project began during MANDEM's artist residency at the Associazione Culturale Il Palmerino (Florence, Italy). Hypermobility has exhibited in Italy, England, Canada, and the United States. This Spider Gerbera daisy jumped out at me from a bouquet I bought at a local farmer's market.  The color was so vibrant it reminded me of an explosion, and so I used a creative technique to transform the original photo to show that.

Today there are more RARE TORNADO incidents in areas of the world that are not normally hit. Tornado experts predict more rare tornado episodes and they are studying whether global climate change is the cause because climate change increases levels of energy, as well as increases clashes between cold air masses and warm humid air masses. Chances are that an El Nino in 2014 will lead to a record breaking year on many weather fronts.

I enjoy finding old furniture or sometime in this case an old kitchen cabinet my neighbor through out during a remodel. I picked it up and designed an India style on it and now have it in my home.
