Fulton County Hits the Mark

Fulton County Georgia hit their mark with participation this year for the Seventh Annual NAP Exhibition. Coordinator Briana Camelo credits the jump in numbers to the marketing efforts and strong support from her co-workers and their Director. One fantastic marketing avenue they took was to reach out to different department heads and ask them to help get their employees involved.

Artists Determination Helps Keeps NAP Going in Salt Lake County

“The NAP is a great opportunity for artists that don’t have a place to exhibit, encouraging them to work creatively and improve their talents,” states Valerie Price, NAP Coordinator for our Salt Lake County, UT venue. This is true for the numerous artists who have taken advantage of this annual opportunity, creating new work and entering the exhibition every year.  Valerie commented that one of the joys of coordinating the exhibit is seeing how the artwork has improved over the years.

NY jury to hear Jasper Johns testify at art trial

Artist Jasper Johns will testify against a foundry owner charged with trying to sell a fake bronze sculpture of his iconic 1960 painting "Flag" for $11 million, a prosecutor told jurors at the opening of a federal criminal trial Wednesday.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Feingold said Johns will say he never gave Brian Ramnarine the sculpture as a gift despite the defendant's claims.

SIH seeks art to decorate new cancer center

Southern Illinois Healthcare is looking for local artists to create works to adorn the walls and interiors of the SIH Cancer Center. 

The center is under construction at 4100 Pin Oak Drive in Carterville.

“I think when we have the grand opening, it will also be an art exhibit,” said Jennifer Badiu, SIH System Director of Cancer Services, noting all types of mediums are under consideration such as metal, glass, acrylic, water colors and photographs. “This is an opportunity to lend a hand to inspire healing through the arts.”

Praise for New Orleans, LA

Alison Gavrell, Coordinator for the City of New Orleans, successfully raised participation by over thirty percent from 2012. Their Eighth Annual NAP Reception was held on November 22nd and Scott Hutchenson, Advisor to the Mayor on Cultural Economy, was in attendance to celebrate with the artists.

The reception, complete with refreshments, was a festive occasion and allowed attendees ample time to peruse the art and take pictures.

Art heals at Capital Health in Hopewell

As an artist, Colleen Attara has a deep belief that “art heals.”

“I feel really strongly about that,” said Attara, of Yardley, Pa., who has displayed her work in several “healing settings,” including the upcoming “Artists of Yardley” exhibit, which opens today in the Roma Bank Art and Healing Gallery at Hopewell Hospital.

“There is something nurturing and beautiful about the art in the hospital and it is all really different but it all goes together creating this feeling of calmness,” she said.

At the base of Loon Mountain in Lincoln, an ice castle not unlike the frosty palace in the Disney movie “Frozen” is rising from the ground, one icicle at a time. It’s one of three ice castles being built by the same company this winter— the others are in Breckenridge, Colo., and Midway, Utah.

Art Installation at J.F.K. Faces Possible Destruction

Every year, more than seven million international air passengers are greeted gladly on their arrival in the United States — not by forbidding blank corridors or a blizzard of oversize advertising, but by billowing, cloudlike, buttercream-colored curtains stretching hundreds of feet along a periwinkle sky.

“Curtain Wall,” as the installation is called, is a work of public art by the sculptor Harry Roseman in Terminal 4 at Kennedy International Airport.
