This art isn't in the mainstream locations, but these shows shouldn't be missed

It’s not completely accurate to refer to the artists who are featured in these two intriguing exhibits as outsiders. In some ways, in fact, they’re the ultimate insiders – art educators, architects, installers who shape nearly every aspect of the way exhibitions are presented to us. 

Perhaps “unrecognized” might be a better word. Or “overlooked.” Or “unseen.”

Over 200 Amazing Artworks on Display in Pinellas County, FL

This was the Twelfth Annual National Arts Program Exhibition for Pinellas County, Florida and what a tremendous turnout they had! The show invited Pinellas County employees, retirees, active volunteers, and their family members to showcase their visual art talents. Coordinator Sarah Markofski commented that the quality of the 215 works submitted this year was outstanding. A large percentage of the participating artists this year were new to the event, many of whom were new employees of the county.

This is "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and one of the world's most iconic pieces of Asian art.

SpaceX is Launching a Piece of Art into Orbit

When a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches on December 3 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, north of Santa Barbara, California, its payload will include 64 small satellites from 34 organizations and 17 countries, each having paid launch broker Spaceflight Industries a hefty fee to be blasted 350 miles up and released into low earth orbit.

Banksy art works seized in Belgium over lack of insurance

Art works by street artist Banksy have been seized by Belgian authorities after an exhibitor showing them realised they might not be insured.

Some 58 pieces worth millions of euros had gone on display in an empty supermarket space in Brussels.

The exhibitor told the authorities the works might not be covered in case of damage or theft, their lawyer said.

The move comes amid a rights dispute between Banksy's former agent and a German firm over the works.

Museum Showcases the Art of School District Employees

Bibb County School District employees, retirees and their family members were given the opportunity to express themselves creatively by taking part in the 2nd Exhibit of the National Arts Program. This Bibb County showcase is a collaboration that coordinator Donald Druitt brought together, once again, by connecting the sponsor organizations including the NAP, Bibb School District, Tubman Museum and Macon Arts Alliance. So often school districts focus on showcasing and celebrating the artistic talents of their students.

NAP Celebrates 22 Years of Showcasing the Arts in Fulton County

Fulton County had a stellar 22nd National Arts Program exhibition with the highest participation numbers they have had in years. This year’s show featured 150 pieces of artwork with almost double the number of participants from just last year.  As one of our longest running shows, the increased growth in both categories can be directly attributed to the hard work of Kristen Maddox, who took on the role of venue coordinator for their 2018 exhibit.
