Honolulu, HI Increases Participation

The Sixth Annual National Arts Program® Exhibit for the City of Honolulu hung throughout the month of June and included a beautiful collection of art from the employees and their family members. “The creativity displayed in these works is amazing,” said Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts Executive Director Kaleve Iosefa.

Oakwood Celebrates Art, Healing with Annual Employee Exhibit

Denise Sakowicz knows first-hand the healing power of art. When her mother-in-law, Stella, was rehabbing from a heart attack, pulmonary embolism and knee replacement surgery at Oakwood Heritage Hospital last year, she learned that her grandson had entered two works in the Employee Art Exhibit put on by the Oakwood Arts in the Spirit program every year.

Art Helps Heal at NAPA State Hospital, CA

Napa State Hospital in California held its Fifth Annual NAP Exhibit this year, which hung for more than a month in the gallery space within the hospital. There were over 100 artworks displayed including 35 from the adult categories and 33 from both the youth/teen categories. Coordinator Sally Denman commented that the additional youth/teen category participation was, “especially nice and that many of them came to the award ceremony,” adding that “it’s always fun to have children there and see their faces when they win a prize!”

Donna Allen wins Best in Show Award

Portrait artist Donna Campbell Allen, a resident of The Oaks, recently received the Best in Show Award for her watercolor portrait, “Lin,” which is on display at Pine Camp Arts & Community Center. The show is part of Richmond’s National Arts Program®, a venue for artists of any age or experience level to showcase their work.
 
Allen received her award at the National Arts Program awards reception on June 26 at the Science Museum.
 
“This is a wonderful opportunity for families to see art,” says Allen, who works exclusively in watercolor.

The 2011 City of Lincoln National Arts Program® concluded on Friday, July 22 with a closing reception and awards ceremony that was held downtown in the Candy Factory Building.

Twelfth Year Success for Cleveland, OH

This was the 12th Annual National Arts Program® in the City of Cleveland and once again was a brilliant display of the “people’s” talent. Coordinator Chris Luciani, who is very involved in the arts in his community, took on the show once again and it was a true success. The show was housed in the beautiful Arts Collinwood Gallery and included 182 artworks from all ages and levels of talent.
