National Arts Program® Seeks To Feature Local Artists Of Middlesex County

Community Renewal Team is giving area artists a chance to showcase their local color as part of the National Arts Program® now through Jan. 4. Artists of all ages who live in Greater Hartford or in Middlesex County are invited to submit an original work of art, created within the past three years, for judging and a gallery display at Capital Community College.
 
First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each of the adult categories of Amateur, Intermediate and Professional.

Exhibit Shows Healing Arts More Than Just Medical

Usually when people are urged to visit a hospital, the reasons are serious and often cause for concern if not alarm.
 
Go visit Adventist Hinsdale Hospital over the next few weeks for inspiration and delight and, of course, healing.
 
On display is a remarkable art exhibit featuring the works of the Adventist Midwest Hospital employees, medical staff, volunteers and the families of those three groups.

Returning Artists in Tulsa Recognized for their Talents

Many artists from the previous year’s NAP exhibition returned to enter new artwork in the Seventh Annual Exhibition for Tulsa, OK employees and their family members.  Two of these returning artists were not only awarded prizes in their respective categories, they were able to improve their placement from the previous year.  Emma Hammer, a Youth 12 & Under artist who was previously awarded Second Place, won First Place for her piece entitled, “Birch River” (pictured) and Gary Deerinwater, an Intermediate artists who won First Place last year, was awarded Best of Show for his piece entitled,

A Year of Art for Memorial Health Care

“Finally, the art is back!” and “I’ve missed the art so much!” are just a few of the statements made by passersby while taking in the artwork lined hallway at Memorial Health Care System, TN.  The artwork not only adorns one of the longest hallways in the hospital, stretching from the Emergency Department to the Surgery Waiting area, but is traveled daily by everyone from patients to associates to doctors.

Boise Participant featured on Idahostatesman.com

Before retiring from the Idaho Public Library and becoming a fulltime artist, Marilyn Cosho rarely shared her artistic creations.  It wasn't until after she was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age of 54 that she started to display her artwork as a way of demonstrating the therapeutic power of the arts.  This year, Marilyn decided to enter her work in the Fourth Annual NAP Exhibition in the City of Boise, ID.  Her collage entitled "Body #2" won Firs

NAP Welcomes Shands Jacksonville Medical Center

The state of Florida is home to the largest number of National Arts Program® exhibitions. Not only does Florida consist of nine different programs, but they were the first state to host an airport exhibition as well as a transit authority show.

Nothing but High Praise for Boise

Adrienne Kerr (pictured right), who has been a participating artist in the Boise show for a number of years, won first place in the Amateur category for her piece entitled ”Cathedral of Trees”. When asked about the NAP, Adrienne remarked,”This show is an incredible opportunity to display artwork and the prize money is so helpful to my career.  As an up and coming artist in the community, I use the funds to reinvest in my supplies and self-promotion.

Even the Metropolitan Art Museum Features Employee Art

Every two years the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, commonly known as The Met, hosts an employee art show in the same galleries that hang priceless works of art. What originally started as a show for only security guards has now been opened to all employees. This past year over 400 pieces were featured and over 700 people attended the opening reception.

Talent Abounds at Avera

Avera McKennan Hospital’s First NAP Employee and Family Art Exhibition was an amazing success and opened on July 23rd displaying 288 artworks by 165 participating artists. Coordinator Carol Rogers should be honored for her dedication as she has truly made this an event to remember. Involving so many members of the hospital community and allowing them to share another part of their lives is priceless. Patients, visitors and employees alike shared the enjoyment of seeing such talents on display.

Health Arts Network at Duke Continues the Tradition

As usual this was another extremely successful year for the Duke Employee Art Show. There were 135 amazing artworks displayed from August 29th through September 26th. Since 1978, the Duke Employee Art Show has shared the talent of Duke employees with the Duke University community. In 2008, HAND partnered with the National Arts Program® to produce an employee and family art show that included cash prizes, scholarships and the addition of the youth and teen categories.
